Agenda

  1. Bell Ringer: 9/12 & 9/13

Step One: At your table, decide who will answer Question 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Every person should choose a different question to answer. Write the name of the person and their assigned question in the boxes below.

If you are a table of 4, you may choose one question (as a group) not to answer. I included a fifth question because some tables have 5 members.

Once everyone has been assigned a question, separate the pages of this packet and give each group member the page that contains their chosen question.

Step Two: Read “Siren Song” by Margaret Atwood. A copy of the poem has been provided on the back of each answer page. If you would like to listen to the poem as you read along, I have provided a link to the audio on Canvas under today’s bell ringer.

Step Three: On the correct page, write the answer to your question in the appropriate column. Ensure your answer is thoughtful, thorough, and consists of at least 2-3 sentences.

Step Four: In 10-15 minutes, we will continue on the subsequent steps.

Step Five: Once the 15 minutes are over, you will begin a series of rotations. During these rotations, you will rotate your papers clockwise around your table.

Once you have received a new paper, you will read that person’s answer to the question they were assigned. Then you will add to their original answer with something new and meaningful. We will do this three times until you have read everyone’s answer and contributed to the discussion.

Suggestions:

  • Cite textual evidence

  • Identify figurative language / imagery that either contrasts or complements their argument

  • Find an additional example

  • Find something in the poem that contradicts their answer

  • Add to their argument with your own thoughts that build and improve their answer

2. Read Long Way Down (Pages 2-8) and complete the assignment.

3. Begin the Citing Evidence Presentation and take the Citing Evidence Notes.
