Write a short paragraph for each event or theme, explaining which elements of the Russian Revolution it is related to and why you think so.
Chapter 1: In the opening chapter, the animals of Manor Farm are introduced as they express their dissatisfaction with their human owner, Mr. Jones. This discontent mirrors the feelings of the Russian people towards the Tsarist regime before the February Revolution of 1917.
Chapter 2: The animals revolt and take over the farm, establishing their own government. This mirrors the October Revolution of 1917, in which the Bolsheviks overthrew the Provisional Government and established their own socialist state.
Chapter 3: The farm is divided between the pigs and the other animals, leading to conflict and, eventually, a civil war. This mirrors the Russian Civil War of 1918-1922, in which different factions fought for control of the country.
Chapter 4: The pigs adopt a new economic policy, allowing them to engage in trade with neighboring farms. This mirrors the New Economic Policy implemented by the Soviet government in 1921, which allowed for limited private enterprise.
Chapter 5: Napoleon becomes the leader of the pigs and consolidates his power. This mirrors Stalin's rise to power in 1922 when he became the General Secretary of the Communist Party.
Chapter 6: The Pigs launch a massive industrialization campaign, similar to the First Five-Year Plan implemented by Stalin in 1928-1932.
Chapter 7: The pigs conduct a series of purges to eliminate dissent and consolidate their power, similar to the Great Purge carried out by Stalin in 1936-1938.
Chapter 8: The pigs ally with a neighboring farm, similar to the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact signed in 1939.
Chapter 9: The farm is invaded by humans, similar to the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, known as Operation Barbarossa.
Chapter 10: The animals win a major battle against the invading humans, similar to the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-1943, a turning point in World War II.
