September 25 & 26, 2024
Agenda
Starter:
Assignment: The Deceptive Danforth
Directions: For this activity, you will analyze the “dance” of Danforth’s speech – how he is able to dance around other people's claims and accusations. In the left boxes, write down a claim or comment a character gives. Next, in the right boxes, provide a quote of Danforth’s reply and the strategies he uses in this reply to discredit the claim and/or character and maintain his authority. You can also note logical fallacies.
Reading: Read The Crucible: Act 4 and complete the dialectical journal assignment.
Directions: While reading Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, investigate how characters manipulate language, situations, and audience for their specific purposes.
