1. Starter: Motifs

   • Directions: With your table group, choose a motif to analyze. Next, consider your chosen motif’s rhetorical function. In other words, how does it contribute to Miller’s purpose? Complete the worksheet below.

     • If you are unfamiliar with motifs, review this handout.

2. Read The Crucible: Act 2 and complete the dialectical journal assignment.

   • Assignment

   • Directions: While reading Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, investigate how characters manipulate language, situations, and audience for their specific purposes.

3. Once you’ve read The Crucible: Act 2, review the guiding questions handout and complete the Act 2: Guiding Questions assignment.

   • Assignment

     • Directions: As a table group, pick two questions to which you would like to write an 8-sentence body paragraph response. As a table, find two pieces of textual evidence for each question. Then, individually, write an 8-sentence body paragraph response. DO NOT SHARE THIS GOOGLE DOC BECAUSE YOU EACH NEED TO WRITE YOUR OWN 8-SENTENCE BODY PARAGRAPHS!
