    • Before beginning the practice, please watch the video on Plessy v. Ferguson.

    • As a group, we will each pick roles and read the script version of Plessy.

    • Practice #1: Plessy v. Ferguson (Reading) ASSIGNMENT

      • Key questions/ideas: Who declared the Supreme Court decision in this case? Who dissented? When was this case decided? What was the general premise of this case? What was the ruling of the court? What did this case mean for an individual's rights? Why is this case significant in current times?

      • Writing Response: Compare and contrast the arguments in Justice Brown’s majority opinion with Justice Harlan’s dissenting opinion in Plessy v. Ferguson. Which rhetorical strategies does each use most effectively to advance their arguments? Which arguments or instances of legal reasoning don’t seem to have withstood the test of time?
