      • What is art?

      • How do you determine whether a piece of art has artistic value?

      • Who determines whether or not artistic works have value? How do they do this?

  2. Read and respond: “The Intriguing Tale of Piero Manzoni's 'Artist's Shit' and the Nature of Art”

    • Do you believe Manzoni’s work is art? Why or why not?

  3. Review the PowerPoint and answer “Is it art?”

  4. Complete the Art Analysis Activity.

    Part One

    • Browse the “How to Analyze Artwork” doc.

    • Think of questions that would be useful to analyze the artwork we have viewed today.

    • Choose at least 2 questions from “CONTENT, CONTEXT AND MEANING” and 2 questions from “COMPOSITION AND FORMAT.”

    • Select two pieces of art we have viewed today to analyze.

    • Answer the analysis questions to the best of your ability. They will assist you with part 2.

    Part Two

    • For one of your chosen artworks, you will produce a Values, Identity, Actions analysis of a piece of that artist’s work, considering both its artistic properties (“COMPOSITION AND FORMAT”) and its historical context (“CONTENT, CONTEXT AND MEANING”). You must address all of the points below and its artistic properties and its historical context.
